Apocalypto

Apocalypto.... I think is one of the best movies I've seen... or will remember.... Directed by one of the Hollywood legend Mel Gibson, with actually cast who aren't famous but professional enough for Hollywood... o___o

Don't be fooled by the poster... Coz w
hen I 1st saw it.... I was like.... The hell?! Mel Gibson making a zombie/mummy horror movie now? but it was totally out of what I thought it was different.

The movie reflects the time of the great Mayan Civilization, how they lived & worshipped their gods... & let me tell ya.... their gods are pretty demanding o__o (more about that later).

As the movies starts, you'll noticed dat they aren't speaka in English. Im not sure wat their speaking, if im not wrong its ancient Mexican?(correct me if im wrong). Its kinda nice to watch a foreign movie. their language is special lol.

The cast are totally UN-recognisable... mostly local mexican actors... they did very well actually and its always gud to look at new faces XD..... The main is character, Jaguar Paw. The story mainly focuses on him, showing his determinationg of searching for his loved ones(im not gonna spoil too much haha). The movie actually takes place about 2 or 3 days. quite short yeah.... dats Mel's style i guess....

A picture of Jaguar Paw & his father Flint Sky.

I think this movie came out at the right time because it shows how far we've improve in our technology... The costume design is definitely a winner... Tattoos, piercing really suits the people of ancient Columbia.... The Mayan mercenaries definitely loo
ks bad ass... armor of Zero Wolf was awesome & I liked the hairstyles of the people especially Middle Eye LOL!!

This picture shows the insane-ness of Mayan piercings in the past. 'r i handsome? rawr~'

The movie oso focuses mainly on 'The Chase!' where Zero Wolf(the leader) was outraged when he learns dat his son was killed by Jaguar Paw and swore to chase and kill him. the chase, is in fact the best part of the movie in my opinion.... coz very exciting kaka.... there r times when i went 'zomg lol? he did dat? zomgwtf dat was awesomess! o___o'

Middle Eye sez: 'Wear arr yiuu Jaguar Paw? i r wanna huntz u downz!'

Zero Wolf: The Leader of the mercenaries. The movie has a very bizzare ending dat leaves u thinking wat will happen next. After the movie i thought of the many different cultures n beliefs dat ppl hav. it reli made me feel grateful to live in da 20th - 21st century yo... LOL....

Well here's my rating for this movie: 88%

The Good:
  • Very well done costume design
  • Unique storyline
  • well acting and exciting at sum parts
The Bad:
  • Shows too much on the civilization & not the story... sumtimes makes u feel like ur watching a documentary
  • abit inaccurate at sum point (ie. they do not sacrifice normal villagers, instead royalties of a rival kingdom)
'I r da best shaman in all of land!' XD

Hey,
Picked up your blog via a pic search, great pic with jaguar paw
Agree with you the movie is awesome, the characters are amazing, set in a distant past of an ancient society but yet still somehow extremely modern in how they interract. I felt a lot of intimacy with all the characters, even the "baddies".
Disagree with you on the negative of "too much on civilisation". I think it is a really significant part of the film, the contrast between the relative innocence and simplicity of the life of the forest people versus the decadence of the city. Also the sacrifice scene is so intense, it's an amazing portion of the film. It makes the parting between the big chubby guy and his mother in law all the more moving.

Actually the Maya did practice human sacrifice; the language they speak is a Mayan dialect, I believe.
